CONSERVATION LAB

In this lab, archaeologists become the doctors of artifacts…While excavations make it possible for us to understand more about the past by examining the findings, it also causes quick and irreversible damages to findings that have been staying there for thousands of years.

Conservators, who are regarded as doctors of archaeology, try to treat and preserve the material damage of the past while, at the same time, trying to understand how they were made, used and destroyed. Conservators make it possible to preserve artifacts’ features for generations and contribute to the process of getting a better understanding of the past for years.
